In the run-up to a summit between EU and Western Balkan leaders in Tirana on December 6th, we have sent a joint letter to the Ambassadors of the EU Permanent Representations to the EU, calling on the EU Council shift from the EU Commission’s focus on fossil gas.
Our concern is that EU funds might be misdirected towards gas and subsidizing bills instead of energy efficiency and renewables.
Energy is not directly tackled on the summits’ agenda, but is part of the first topic on “consequences of the Russian aggression against Ukraine”. Leaders will look at how to tackle its negative effects on energy and food security in the Western Balkans
