About the role

We are looking for an independent and experienced individual who wants to use their skills to help research and investigate financial flows of financial institutions. You will be responsible for devising a research and advocacy strategy on both public and private financial institutions that continue to expand their fossil fuel portfolios and use tax payer’s money for causing harm in projects that purport to promote development for the people and the environment. You will also need to lead on analyzing policies and advocating for improved practices. The finance campaigner position will implement Just Finance International’s community-based and rights-based activities together with JFI and partners working in challenging environments. The campaigner will be comfortable collaborating with a small but effective team as part of a wider international organization from diverse backgrounds.

Just Finance International works to ensure that global development and infrastructure financing – both public and private – is contributing to the advancement of climate and environmental justice and human rights. We focus on the role that governments, banks, and investors play in financing socially and environmentally damaging activities, and work with project affected peoples and their representatives to advocate for better alternatives. Our operational model is fast-moving and impacts-oriented and we take instructions from our community-based partners whom we support.

Qualifications 

  • A proven track record in analyzing fossil and development finance
  • Experienced in developing methodologies for tracking and reporting on financial flows relevant to advocacy objectives
  • Skilled at breaking down complex financial data and generating research that is accessible and impactful for policy discussions. 
  • Competency in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and comfortable working with data analysis tools like R, Python and Tableau, applying statistical modeling and methodologies to bring clarity to campaigns.
  • Experienced in creating advocacy materials and framing research findings to maximize impact with policymakers, media, and other key stakeholders
  • A proven track record in building and engaging coalitions of partners 
  • Language proficiency in English and a secondary European language

About you (selection criteria)

You possess all the above qualifications, and have a proven track record in collaborating with a wide range of actors, from non-governmental organizations, financial institutions, media and regulators.

You are confident in coordinating with partners and stakeholders for sharing strategy and best practice. 

You need to show initiative, are self-motivated and autonomous, while being a team player who is open to input from the team and various stakeholders. 

You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively. Above all, you are able to use your interpersonal skills to support and build rapport with partners, and  align yourself with JFI’s ethos and mission for community-based activism.

Travel to European cities and potentially project sites required. You need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and other travel-required vaccines as a condition of consultancy, unless a medical exemption is approved.
